
Woman imprisoned in the wake of murdering her life partner over wedding band
27-year-old Blessing Edet who was summoned before an Ikeja Special Offenses Court for murdering her 33-year-old life partner, Edet Ebong during a battle that resulted following her refusal to wear a wedding band he gave her, has been given a multi year correctional facility sentence.
New Telegraph detailed that Edet was indicted on a drove sentence of automatic murder in the wake of being charged before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, over the offense submitted around 12:15 am on August 18, 2015 at her condo in Lekki zone of Lagos state.
Giving her record of the episode in court on February 7, she said the expired needed her to cook for him by 12 PM yet she denied on the grounds that she was worn out.
"After hearing that I was worn out, he went into the kitchen and saw the wedding band he had given me adjacent to the stove. He lost control and inquired as to why I was not wearing the ring.
"He broke a mirror and utilized piece of it to cut me, I was draining and I was shouting out to the neighbors for assistance," she said.
Edet said she wounded Ebong in the stomach area with a kitchen blade during the battle. Conveying her judgment, Justice Taiwo stated:
"By wounding the expired in the lower some portion of his belly, she didn't plan to make shocking mischief the litigant. The respondent has built up variables important to substantiate self-preservation.
"I find that the respondent acted in self-protection as she was a casualty of unwarranted attack. The respondent isn't blameworthy of homicide however I see her as liable of the automatic murder of Edet Ebong.
"Segment 227 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State endorses life detainment for the offense of automatic murder. This is a reasonable instance of heedlessness with respect to both the perished and the litigant.
"I thus sentence the litigant to 10 years detainment with no alternative of fine. The sentence will produce results from the long stretch of August 2015 which is the point at which she has been in care."
